Final Animation

Visual Effect Breakdown's

Key Details

Master's Degree University Assignment - Graded as a Distinction.

Made in a group of six people, from both MSc Computer Animation and Visual Effects and MSc Computer Animation and Visual Effects.

Created over 8 weeks from the initial idea to the final render.

I created the Floating Runes and Sword Fire effect, I also worked on the Dog Leash.

The effects were created in Houdini, rendered using Mantra and modified in Nuke.

In order to render it out I had to import the sword animation and camera from Maya as an Alembic file so I could animate the effect positions.

About

This animation was created for the Group Project unit that is shared across the MA 3D Computer Animation, the MA Digital Effects and the MSc Computer Animation and Visual Effects courses at Bournemouth University. Our team consisted of six people, three from the MA3D course and three from the MSc course. It was created over 8 weeks from the initial idea to the Final Animation. It was created using Maya, Houdini, Nuke and a few other pieces of software along the way. As a team we all worked together, meeting at least twice a week to discuss idea’s and current progress of the animation. While we all helped each other on as many aspects of the animation as we could we each had specific roles and tasks to complete for the project. I created the effects for both the floating runes and the fire on the sword. I also worked on the Dog Leash but due to being ill for a week, I handed the effect over to another in the group, so that I could focus on the sword effects. The effects were created in Houdini, rendered using Mantra and modified in Nuke, with the fire having its hue shifted to blue and some glow effects being added. Along side that I had to import the sword animation and camera from Maya as an Alembic file so I could animate the effect positions, so it could be added to the animation using compositing. This assignment was graded a distinction.
